Helpers of our Joy: How Humorists Help us See the World in the Light of Eternity
What's the point of humorous stories? Some people see them as escape literature - something you read when you want to forget the events of the day. Others see it as an empty waste of time. But history never knew a time when humor was out of style.
While some humorists tell stories that reveal the emptiness of life, the best do more than reveal frivolity; they help us rejoice in the blessings and trials of life. Join us on September 24th in Madison, Alabama where we will discuss the humor of P.G. Wodehouse, G.K. Chesterton, and Stephen Leacock, and how they serve as helpers of our joy.
We will begin at 9:00 am. The meeting will include three lectures (presented by Matt Carpenter) with time for coffee and discussion of the topics. We will dismiss around lunchtime. Coffee, water, and snacks will be provided.
